            “Brătianu” Cultural Centre, in partnership with the Public School of Akureyri, Iceland announces the launch of the Project “Promoting the Romanian cultural identity through art workshops, folklore and traditions for the Icelandic community in Akureyri”.

The Project is financed through the Programme PA17/RO13 “Promoting Diversity in Culture and Art within the European Cultural Heritage”- Application for small-scale projects, financed through the Financial Mechanism SEE 2009-2014, administered in Romania by the Ministry of Culture - Project Management Unit.

The Project shall be implemented for a period of 6 months, beginning with 1 June 2015.

The total eligible value of the project is RON 66,075.

The project aims at determining a better understanding of the cultural diversity, consolidating the intercultural dialogue by promoting the Romanian traditions and crafts among the community of Akureyri, Iceland.

The project target group is represented by the authorities of the local public administration in Akureyri and students of Oddeyrarskoli Public School, particularly.

The activities of the project consist of organizing different traditional workshops, an exhibition of photographs of items made by the folk craftsmen and images of Arges and Muscel area, presentation of a documentary on traditional craftsmen and their art, on the course of 3 days.

    All the project activities shall take place within the Public School of Akureyri, Iceland.

ON THE NATIONAL DAY OF ROMANIA,

THE NATIONAL FLAG WAS HOISTED IN ICELAND

 

            “Bratianu” Cultural Centre announces that during the period November 29 - December 5 we organized the main event of the project “Promoting the Romanian cultural identity through art workshops, folklore and traditions for the Icelandic community in Akureyri”, an event which was held within the Public School in Akureyri, Iceland.

Within this event we organized workshops by involving the students of the partner school, under the guidance of the artisans Ion Rodoş, Ionuţ Rodoş and Ştefănica Crişan, exhibitions of photographs of landscapes in Arges county and we presented a documentary on the traditional artisans. The practical activities were held on the course of three days December 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2015 with the direct participation of children and teachers from the partner school and the general public from Akureyri.

The project goal was to promote Romanian tradition among a community which does not have sufficient information about the history and culture of our country, thus supporting to shape the image of Romania in the space of the European cultural diversity, by conducting traditional workshops, photography exhibitions of items created by the artisans and images of Arges and Muscel area, by presenting a documentary film on the artisans and their art. The target group of the project was the local community in the town of Akureyri, Iceland, over 500 students, teachers and other community members.

The project objectives were achieved, namely:

            - Determine a better understanding of the cultural diversity and strengthen the intercultural dialogue through the promotion of the Romanian cultural identity, with the help of art workshops, traditions and crafts for the Icelandic community in Akureyri;

            - Strengthen the bilateral relations between the Romanian cultural operators and those of the donor countries, respectively Iceland, by carrying out the project activities in the Public School of Akureyri.

           - Increase international mobility for the Romanian traditional artisans and their works.

The project “Promoting the Romanian cultural identity through art workshops, folklore and traditions for the Icelandic community in Akureyri” is carried out within the Programme PA17 / RO13 – “Promoting diversity in culture and art within the European cultural heritage”, which is part of the Financial Mechanism SEE 2009 -2014. The financing contract for the project was signed with the Ministry of Culture - Project Management Unit no. PA17 / RO13 - SP21 on 23.04.2015 and takes place for a period of 6 months commencing from 01 June 2015. The total eligible value of the project is 66,075 RON.
