Traditions of Arges 50 km far from the Polar Circle

 

We would like to inform you on the conclusion of a financing contract between “Brătianu” Cultural Centre and Ministry of Culture – Project Management Unit.

The Project is registered with the Ministry of Culture under No. PA17/RO13-SP21/23.04.2015 and it is aimed at providing non-refundable financing for the implementation of the project entitled “Promoting the Romanian cultural identity through art workshops, folklore and traditions for the Icelandic community in Akureyri” ,  within the Programme PA17/RO13  “Promoting Diversity in Culture and Art within the European Cultural Heritage” financed through the Financial Mechanism SEE 2009-2014.

The project is aimed at promoting the image and visibility of “Brătianu” Cultural Centre by organizing activities to promote the Romanian traditions among a community which does not have enough information on our national culture and history, thus providing support in outlining Romania’s image within the European cultural diversity area.

 

            Brătianu Cultural Centre is in partnership with the Public School of Akureyri (Oddeyrarskóli Akureyri) which was established on 6 December 1957 and is part of the public education system of the town. At present, 195 students, aged 6-16, are attending its courses and 40 people are employed (didactic and administrative staff). The motto governing this school is as follows: Responsibility, Respect, Friendship.

            Apart from the activities specific to an education institution, the school of Akureyri also organizes a series of related projects aimed at involving students in diverse activities.

Thus, among the extra-curricular activities carried out, we may mention:

  • recreational and after school activities;
  • skill development activities (SMT school skills) aimed at creating an open atmosphere within the school and a better collaboration between students and teachers;
  • activities to implement the American method “positive behavior support” – support in developing positive behaviour and the parents’ training programme (PMT Parents);
  • programmes/ courses on: human welfare and health, sustainability, human rights, democracy, gender equality, creativity; pedagogical counseling.

The successful implementation of the project Promoting the Romanian cultural identity through art workshops, folklore and traditions for the Icelandic community in Akureyri” shall be possible owing to a good collaboration between the financing applicant –“Brătianu” Cultural Centre and its project partner- Oddeyrarskóli Akureyri.

From the financial point of view, the partner’s contribution to the project shall be 0 %, the applicant being the one that shall have to carry out the goods and services purchases, up to the moment of project reimbursements

            “Brătianu” Cultural Centre, in partnership with the Public School of Akureyri, Iceland announces the launch of the Project “Promoting the Romanian cultural identity through art workshops, folklore and traditions for the Icelandic community in Akureyri”.

The Project is financed through the Programme PA17/RO13 “Promoting Diversity in Culture and Art within the European Cultural Heritage”- Application for small-scale projects, financed through the Financial Mechanism SEE 2009-2014, administered in Romania by the Ministry of Culture - Project Management Unit.

The Project shall be implemented for a period of 6 months, beginning with 1 June 2015.

The total eligible value of the project is RON 66,075.

The project aims at determining a better understanding of the cultural diversity, consolidating the intercultural dialogue by promoting the Romanian traditions and crafts among the community of Akureyri, Iceland.

The project target group is represented by the authorities of the local public administration in Akureyri and students of Oddeyrarskoli Public School, particularly.

The activities of the project consist of organizing different traditional workshops, an exhibition of photographs of items made by the folk craftsmen and images of Arges and Muscel area, presentation of a documentary on traditional craftsmen and their art, on the course of 3 days.

    All the project activities shall take place within the Public School of Akureyri, Iceland.
